In the recent episode of Broncolor’s How-to series Karl Taylor and Urs Recher shows how to create proper lighting when taking an iPad shot.

The most important aspects are:

  1. They create a rim light for the tablet by placing in on a black background which is not much bigger than the tablet, and the whole stuff is placed on a diffuse white base lit from below.
  2. They make the touchscreen reflected just a little bit, but not more than the display’s own light itself.
  3. The final step is making a long exposure with the camera in the dark studio in order to make the display’s light exposed. Do not forget to turn off the modelling lights in this case!
